OUR ENVIRONMENT

Set within 350 hectares overlooking Whakaraupō Lyttelton Harbour, Living Springs is a place where people connect with nature. For more than 15 years, we’ve been working to restore native habitats, protect waterways and bring back the biodiversity of the Port Hills.

Our conservation work has grown considerably since the Allandale Stream Restoration Programme began in 2011. Together with Ngāti Wheke, conservation partners, volunteers and neighbouring landowners, we’ve planted more than 78,000 native trees, shrubs and grasses, established extensive predator control programmes and supported the regeneration of native habitats.

Now we’re taking the next exciting step: Living Springs Sanctuary.

Following a positive feasibility study, we’re progressing plans to establish a predator-proof fenced sanctuary within Living Springs, potentially covering up to 220 hectares. Our vision is to create a camp within a sanctuary, a place where native wildlife thrives and thousands of children and visitors can experience the wonder of nature firsthand.

This ambitious project will bring conservation, education and community together, creating something extraordinary for Canterbury and future generations.
