Tackling Wilding Gums and improving the Camp Quality Track at Living Springs
Our fortnightly volunteer sessions are gaining momentum again after a couple of weather-related postponements. Here ‘s an update of what we have been doing.
When you are a fortnightly volunteer at Living Springs, you never really know what task you’ll be given until you turn up on the day! One thing for certain, though, is that you will be helping us to restore habitat and make our tracks accessible. Recently, our volunteers got to grips with removing young wilding gum seedlings from an old-growth stand before they had a chance to grow too large.
Volunteers also helped us gravel a track that we are preparing for wheelchair access. The track will enable children living with cancer to visit the trees they have planted at Living Springs over the past few years. Visiting the trees and seeing them grow creates a special opportunity to reconnect with nature and the land.

Our volunteer days are open to everyone, no experience necessary, and take place every second Thursday. Activities vary each session, and lunch is always provided. Next session is 5 November 2026.
We would love to see some new faces join us! Contact us at volunteers@livingsprings.co.nz
