SUMMARY STATEMENT
The Pest Control Coordinator will be responsible for contributing to biodiversity enhancement at Living Springs and the surrounding Allandale/ Teddington area.
They will work closely with other staff, volunteers and landowners to deliver conservation outcomes.
The ideal candidate will be organised, have an eye for detail, initiative and have experience working outdoors in rugged terrain and in variable weather conditions. This role will suit a self-motivated person with a strong work ethic and committed to making a difference. Someone that can operate well both in an isolated environment and as part of a team.
This position is for an experienced Pest control operator who can remove mammalian pests from bush habitats in an area up to 1200ha approx. Target species being Possum, Rats, Mustelids, Hedgehog, Feral Cats.
DUTIES
As a Conservation Pest Control Coordinator, your responsibilities will include:
 
Pest Control on Living Springs and Predator Free Allandale Area 1200ha

Deliver a Pesticide control programme that is highly effective at reducing pest populations and slow down reinvasion specific to Possum and Rats.

You may be working with a variety of toxins, traps, baits and lures to perform your job. Experience working safely with toxin will be crucial.

Can deliver Invasive Pest monitoring when required. Chew Cards, Tracking Tunnels, Trail Cameras, ZIP motor lures.

Recording of toxin uptakes as per Trap NZ and Living Springs procedures, recording, reporting, and working on data analysis.

Can manage and look after pest control equipment and resources.

Support staff and volunteers completing fieldwork related to trapping/ toxin control.

Responsible when working on private properties and teaching advising landowners of safeguarding non- targets specially livestock and domestic animals.

Helps with training volunteers and other staff personal involved in the operation.

Servicing all trap/ toxins and monitoring lines; track work, flagging and tagging.

Feral Cat & Rabbit control may be required.

Volunteer and Community Engagement

• Work alongside volunteers, staff, community partners, landowners to deliver onsite pest control
• Provide training to ensure volunteers/ staff/ landowners can carry out tasks safely and effectively.
• Manage safety in the field, including incident reporting and adherence to health and safety protocols.
• Maintaining high team morale and motivation.
 
Operational and Reporting Responsibilities
• Order and coordinate the pickup and delivery of materials and toxin for pest control including storage and disposal of pesticides.
• Monitor and report on progress and deliverables when required.
• Work within a budget to complete required tasks efficiently.

Respond appropriately to accidents or emergencies following approved procedures.

Undergo police vetting as part of employment requirements.

Ensuring the care, maintenance, and safe operation of vehicles, trailers, tools, and equipment.

Essential Requirements
Candidates must have:
  • Relevant experience in pest control including trapping and toxin handling.
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively as part of a team.
  • A good work ethic and reliability.
  • A valid New Zealand work visa, permit, or residency.
  • Full Driver’s License & First Aid Certificate

  • Controlled Substance License
  • Firearms license
  • 4WD/ LUV certificates
