Job vacancy: Conservation Field Worker- Tracks Specialist
Location: Living Springs, Allandale
Reports to: Conservation Officer/Team Leader
Hours: Part-time – 24 hours/week, $30/hr
Status: Term Contract – 27 weeks, October- March

SUMMARY STATEMENT
The Field Worker will be responsible for contributing to biodiversity enhancement at Living Springs.
They will work closely with other staff and volunteers to deliver conservation outcomes.
The ideal candidate will be organised, have an eye for detail, initiative and have experience working outdoors in rugged terrain and in variable weather conditions. This role will suit a self-motivated person with a strong work ethic and committed to making a difference. Someone that can operate well both in an isolated environment and as part of a team.
DUTIES
As a Conservation Field Worker, your responsibilities will include:
Track Management and Development
• Build new tracks in steep or rocky terrain to enhance visitor experience while maintaining accessibility.
• Maintain existing tracks (approx. 20 km) by clearing vegetation, cutting steps, and applying metal where needed.
• Plan and execute fieldwork to improve track quality and safety.
• Construct a new walking and interpretation trail in a regenerating bush zone, ensuring accessibility for all and incorporating engaging attractions.
Volunteer and Community Engagement
• Work alongside volunteers and community partners to deliver onsite track maintenance.
• Provide training to ensure volunteers can carry out tasks safely and effectively.
• Manage safety in the field, including incident reporting and adherence to health and safety protocols.
• Maintaining high team morale and motivation.
Operational and Reporting Responsibilities
• Order and coordinate the pickup and delivery of materials for track work.
• Monitor and report on progress and deliverables when required
• Work within a budget to complete required tasks efficiently.

• Undergo police vetting as part of employment requirements.
• Ensuring the care, maintenance, and safe operation of vehicles, trailers, tools, and equipment.
Essential Requirements
Candidates must have:
• Relevant experience in track work.
• Proven ability to work cooperatively as part of a team.
• A good work ethic and reliability.
• A willingness to learn about mātauranga Māori and kaitiakitanga.
• A valid New Zealand work visa, permit, or residency.
Desirable Requirements
• Full Driver’s License
• Safe operation of equipment and tools
• First Aid Certificate
